Coal Industry Centre - Tours

The Coal Industry Centre provides onsite experiences for many groups within the
community and visitors to the Hunter Valley. Through coordinating inspections of suppliers
service providers and coal mine operators, visitors can choose a tour that best fits their
level of interest.
Technical Study Tours

The Coal Industry Centre can coordinate technical study tours for overseas
delegations and industry partners. A comprehensive itinerary of inspections and guest speakers covering
the major aspects of the coal mining industry is offered at a technical level. Inspections of
underground and open cut mines, power stations, mining and transport infrastructure, port of
Newcastle and ship loading facilities are available.
Duration: 1 to 3 days.
Educational Excursions
The Coal Industry Centre coordinates educational excursions
for primary, secondary and tertiary students studying the coal industry. Specific
areas of interest include environmental, economic, historical and social impacts
of mining on rural communities. Students investigating careers in the coal mining industry
are catered for with career day opportunities to visit prospective employers on site.
Duration: 1/2 to 1 day.

Seniors and Tourists
The Coal Industry Centre offers Seniors and Tourists
who are seeking an enjoyable learning experience of
Australia's largest export industry and
domestic source of energy, a safe and fully escorted coal industry tour.
Duration: 2 to 4 hours.

Conditions
All open-cut mine tours are subject to favourable weather and road access
conditions. Some on-site inspections require the wearing of personal protection equipment
PPE (safety helmets, safety glasses and reflective vests).
All visitors to mine sites need to experience a visitor induction.
Transport
Both 4WD vehicles and buses can be used.
